2025 K3 Cat Skiing-Revelstoke

2025 has been more of the same.  Very little skiing living here in Rancho. One day at Crystal with scott lennard on december 15. I went to K3 with the gang again.  It was tough again.  Some very nice weather and conditions on day 1, but we had a problem with Stuart not arriving until 2 am to Revi, then he lost his ear batteries, and then he had a hard time taking turns at K3.  He LEFT THE TRIP......

I will put more down about the trip later.  I'm bummed out today with just about everything.  March 1, 23

2024 Trip to K3 Catski. Feb 1-3

All was planned and well run by Julia and Michael Silk.  They were able to get all the rooms, cars, etc.

But it was an El Nino year and the snow was probably 50% of normal.  Julia and I got in early and went to Silverstar.  Stayed at the Vance  Conference center again, had dinner across the street. But we never put on skis.  It was too bleak and no one with any experience was skiing.

We picked up the Silks and drove to Revelstoke.  Slightly better there.  The kids skied the first day, then Stu and I went up the second day.  Just about a 4 on the scale.  Just no snow.

Off to K3, picked up by Kristan, a bright and cheery 33 year old snowbard tailgunner. Bumpy ride up because the roads didn't have much snow.

Great set up with Andi the chef.  We stayed in the old lodge.  All was well done and we were the only 4 guests in the lodge .  That was the good news.  The bad was it had rained days before w got there.

Stuart and I went the first day but we only got in about 5 runs. Skied the top mostly , some meadows and do OK,   Just not that good.

Saturday we went out and went to the right side.  New terrain for the year and it was an ice sheet in some woods that so spooked Stuart that he went in.  We went back to the open meadows and it had snowed about 3-4 inches.  I got in a good day.

Sunday we wall went for it, had some new snow, and it went fairly well.  Pioneered Joes Run, a crappy traverse on a ridge that was tough .  We ended the day just scratching along on some ok places but nothing like 2023 which was exceptional snow.  I hope we go again, but Joe was not happy. We shall see....

2022-2023 SEASON OF EXTRAORDINARY SNOW

There was more snow this year in the Sierras than almost ever since they have measured it. 750” to over 800” in the southern sierra.  Mammouth was so buried that they were often closed.  The town was totally over covered.  The second stories were covered.

In Little Cottonwood Canyon, same story.  700+ inches.  3 and 4 day inter lodge closures.  Huge dumps.

The Pacific NW had a good, not great year.  The atmospheric rivers were much further south.  I believe Crystal had a 400” year.

I skied at Mammouth once with Andrew in February, then went to BC for a trip to K3 cat ski.  Very, very good year.  A very good trip with deep snow.  We skied Revelstoke for a day, and then after K3, we went to Silver Star.  Loved the trip and booked for 24.

Had 3 days with Jeff Martin in Utah.  Good day at Deere Valley, Then a very good day at Alta on a snowy, Nw style day of heavy cloud and snow.  Last day was bluebird at Snowbird which was magnificent.  Crowded, but that’s Snowbird now.

One last day at Mammouth with Andrew on April 29 or so.  Really good spring skiing.  It then snowed a few days later, in May!

I skied will on the days I got to go.  Never stop skiing.  It’s so good.

2022/23 Starts of with big storms on West Coast.

California in particular, but all of the West is going well.  Mammoth has had a remarkable start with over 400" by January 19, Tahoe areas are full, Utah has a number of powder dumps and in all the snowfall even in Washington it's been pretty good.

  • Season Total Snow 188" at Crystal.

Costs are out of this world without a EPIC or IKON pass.  Like $250 a day at the big areas.  It will be interesting to see what I pay and where.  The ONLY thing I have scheduled is BC at the end of Feb/ March .  Silver Star and Revelstoke with 2 days at K3 powder cats.  Reports to follow.

2021-22. Stunted Season for me. Living in Desert, just one trip. BC/ Skeena Cat Skiing with Silks and Julia.

Very nice trip, first one post knee surgery.  I wasn't as ready as I wanted to be. I had gone to Big Bear, but it's nothing.  this was the year of Covid 19 travel restrictions, so we had a hard time of it going across the border, but got it done.  Julia and I had a great trip .

December 2020

The season is starting pretty well. It's been a reasonable November start and December hasn't been too bad.  I only got up 1 day so far to Crystal and it was pretty good.  Sunny.  I had a very short run at Alpental and it was just to see how my knee did and it wasn't good, so I stopped.

Going to be ready to go and will have a new pair of Head carving skis.  I'll let you know how it goes. Meanwhile, the Pandemic is here and it take reservations to get on hills all over the country. Crystal is usually sold out, so it's going to be tough to get on.

One day in June, 2020

The mountain (Crystal) opened again for a quickie in the year of the plague.  I went alone and had a good time, met Dan Griffith of Endless Turns who may be a resource in the future.
